Updated LOG after Mamelodi Sundowns drop points in title race

Mamelodi Sundowns dropped points for the first time in 2026 after being held to a 1-1 draw by Stellenbosch FC at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night. Miguel Cardoso's side looked on course to extend their impressive run after Tsiki Ntsabeleng gave them the lead in the first half with a neat finish following a quick exchange with Arthur Sales. However, a late penalty from Tshegofatso Mabasa ensured the points were shared, bringing Mamelodi Sundowns' 10-match winning streak in the Betway Premiership to an end. The result leaves the Tshwane side second on the log, one point behind Orlando Pirates, although they still have a game in hand.

Mamelodi Sundowns dominated possession early on but struggled to convert their dominance into goals. Despite continued pressure throughout the match, they were unable to extend their lead beyond Ntsabeleng's opener. Stellenbosch grew into the game in the second half, creating chances through Iqraam Rayners and Omega Mdaka, while goalkeeper Sage Stephens made key saves to keep his side competitive. The decisive moment came late when Chumani Butsaka was fouled in the box, leading to a penalty in the 86th minute.

Mabasa initially saw his penalty saved by Ronwen Williams but reacted quickest to slot home the rebound, securing the draw for the visitors. Mamelodi Sundowns pushed for a winner in the closing stages but were unable to break through again. The result tightens the race at the top of the Betway Premiership standings, while Stellenbosch remain in ninth place, just two points outside the top eight. Masandawana will next
