Reports: PSL team to sign talented Kaizer Chiefs midfielder?

Kaizer Chiefs face the prospect of losing another promising reserve team talent, with reports suggesting that DStv Diski Challenge midfielder Pheko Phago has attracted the attention of Sekhukhune United. According to sources cited by Kick Off, Babina Noko have already made the young playmaker aware of their ambitions to bring him to the club, capitalizing on the midfielder's desire to step up to PSL football next season. While Chiefs have reportedly approached Phago with the intention of renewing his contract within their developmental setup, the 21-year-old appears keen to make the leap to first-team football, a move that could represent another significant blow to the Soweto giants' talent pipeline.

The Krugersdorp-born midfielder has already demonstrated considerable promise at youth level, earning recognition as Kaizer Chiefs' U19 Player of the Season in 2022. His performances in the DStv Diski Challenge this season have been particularly impressive, accumulating four Man of the Match awards across a six-game span. Phago played an instrumental role in inspiring the young Amakhosi to claim their maiden DDC championship during the 2024/25 campaign, establishing himself as one of the competition's standout talents.

Known by the nickname "Spanish Guitar," Phago's playing style sets him apart from his peers through his mature decision-making, composure and tactical discipline. His versatility as a left-footed number six adds further depth to his attributes. The potential departure would continue a frustrating trend for Chiefs, who have previously seen talented reserves such as Omega Mdaka, Puso Dithejane and Khulumani Ndamane depart the club. Sekhukhune, meanwhile, are actively rebuilding following their recent parting of ways with head coach Eric Tinker.
