Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly tracking Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa in what could prove to be a sensational coup for the Soweto giants. The 29-year-old from Botshabelo is currently on loan at Stellenbosch FC until the end of June, after which he will become a free agent eligible to sign with any club from July 1 when the transfer window opens. However, Amakhosi face stiff competition for the striker's signature, with Stellenbosch FC, AmaZulu FC, and Al Ahly also monitoring his situation closely.
Chiefs' interest in Mabasa is understandable given their current striking depth issues. While the club signed Flavio Da Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro this season, Da Silva has borne the brunt of the goal-scoring responsibility after Ighodaro's injury-plagued campaign yielded just seven appearances. Mabasa represents an opportunity to add proven Betway Premiership experience and goal-scoring prowess to their attacking arsenal.
The striker arrives with an impressive pedigree developed since his teenage debut at Bloemfontein Celtic in 2015. Mabasa claimed the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot with 16 goals during the 2023/24 season and has since become Orlando Pirates' second all-time leading scorer with 50 goals, trailing only Benedict Vilakazi's record by eight. His current loan at Stellenbosch has yielded four goals in eleven games, demonstrating continued relevance and quality. For Chiefs, Mabasa would be a ready-made solution combining familiarity with South African football's demands and the pressure associated with playing in Soweto.
