Reports: Kaizer Chiefs to announce this new CEO

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly set to appoint Bheki Shongwe as their new Chief Executive Officer, a move that signals a significant restructuring at the top of the club. Shongwe, a long-serving figure within Amakhosi’s inner circle who previously held the Managing Director role, is expected to step into a more central executive position as part of plans to modernise the club’s operations. The change would introduce a clearer corporate structure, with Shongwe overseeing overall operations while football decisions remain with sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr and football manager Bobby Motaung.

The timing of this potential appointment is critical, with Chiefs preparing for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season and looking to finalise changes in the coming weeks. The introduction of a CEO marks a deliberate shift towards separating football matters from business operations, a model designed to improve efficiency across both departments. Shongwe brings a strong corporate background, including chairmanships at Flow Communications and Evraz Highveld Steel & Vanadium, along with an MBA in Strategy and Finance, adding weight to the club’s long-term vision.

Beyond the boardroom, Kaizer Chiefs face another major decision as co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze guide the team through the season’s final stretch. Their futures remain uncertain, with a review of the technical setup expected once the campaign ends. Sitting on 47 points with four matches remaining, Amakhosi are within reach of their best points tally since winning the league in 2014/15, adding urgency to both the executive and coaching decisions ahead of a pivotal off-season.
