Durban City have officially appointed former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season, ending weeks of speculation about the 37-year-old’s next move. The club confirmed the appointment, handing Ben Youssef the responsibility of leading the Citizens through a campaign that includes both domestic competition and the CAF Confederation Cup. Ben Youssef brings extensive coaching experience across Africa and the Middle East, having worked at AS FAR Rabat, Young Africans SC, Club Africain and Al Ahli SC, and he is familiar with South African football after spending the past two seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, initially as part of Nasreddine Nabi’s technical team before serving as co-coach alongside Cédric Kaze.
Club chairman Farook Kadodia welcomed the appointment, describing Ben Youssef as a coach with strong experience, excellent technical knowledge and a clear understanding of the modern game.
