Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed Dillon Sheppard as the club’s second assistant coach, a significant promotion that coincides with his latest professional milestone. Sheppard recently earned his CAF A Licence after completing the coaching programme in Tanzania, adding the African qualification to his existing UEFA A Licence. That dual accreditation makes him one of the most highly credentialed members of the technical staff at Naturena, and the club moved quickly to formalise his role ahead of the 2026/27 season. Sheppard will work under new head coach Fernando da Cruz alongside fellow assistant Mahmoud Abbas in the Betway Premiership, while also maintaining his role as the key link between the reserve side and the senior team, a bridging function he previously performed under the old technical setup.
Reflecting on the achievement, Sheppard expressed pride in reaching a goal he had pursued for some time, acknowledging the challenges along the way. He thanked the club for its support throughout the process and pledged to share the knowledge he has acquired with both players and fellow coaches. Sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. praised the milestone, noting that having a coach qualified at the highest level in Africa as well as in Europe means the entire club—from the youth development academy to the first team—will benefit. Motaung Jr. described the appointment as a clear statement of intent, underscoring the club’s commitment to investing in its coaching talent.
