Official: Kaizer Chiefs announce new CEO

Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed Bheki Shongwe as the club’s new Chief Group Executive Officer, effective May 2026. Shongwe, who has been part of the Soweto giants for several years, transitions from his role as a non-executive director to take the helm of day-to-day operations. This marks his return to an official executive position after previously serving as Amakhosi’s Managing Director between 2009 and 2012. The club announced that Shongwe will report directly to the Chairman and the Board, working closely with department heads to ensure the organisation continues to thrive both on and off the pitch, while also assisting Dr Kaizer Motaung with the overall running of the club.

Beyond his longstanding association with the club, Shongwe brings a formidable corporate pedigree to the role. He has chaired Flow Communications and Evraz Highveld Steel & Vanadium, and holds an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the University of South Australia, complemented by studies in Economics and Accounting. His background is not purely boardroom-based, however, as he also has authentic football roots, having played for Manzini Wanderers and Gaborone United before moving into the business world. Originally from Eswatini, Shongwe’s blend of executive leadership and on-field experience positions him as a uniquely qualified figure to guide the club forward.

The appointment signals a deliberate move by Chiefs to reinforce its executive structure as it builds on a proud 56-year legacy. The club expressed confidence in Shongwe’s leadership, welcoming him back to the Amakhosi fold and wishing him success in his new capacity. With the team navigating a competitive landscape in South African football, Shongwe’s immediate focus will be on aligning the club’s off-field direction with its ambitions for sustained success, ensuring that the administrative backbone matches the on-pitch demands of one of the continent’s most storied institutions.
