Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly on the verge of appointing Fernando Da Cruz as their new head coach, following the departure of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze after a single season that ended with a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership. The French-Portuguese tactician, who previously served as an assistant under Nasreddine Nabi at the Soweto giants before joining the Moroccan national team, is said to have signed a two-year contract. His return to Naturena brings familiarity that could prove vital as Amakhosi aim to build on last season’s progress. Other names linked to the vacancy included former Mamelodi Sundowns boss Pitso Mosimane and ex-Golden Arrows and Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi, but Da Cruz appears to have won the race.
With a new coach expected to take the reins, Chiefs are also preparing to reinforce their squad during the transfer window. One prominent target is former Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who is currently a free agent after leaving the Buccaneers. The 29-year-old, nicknamed “Sniper,” has drawn interest from Moroccan side Maghreb Fez, who are reportedly ready to offer him a two-year contract. If Amakhosi wish to secure his signature, they may need to match a lucrative salary package to fend off the overseas competition.
