Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for a coaching overhaul, with co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze expected to leave the Soweto giants in the coming weeks. The duo took over from Nasreddine Nabi in September after the Tunisian was suspended, and were later promoted from assistant roles. Their mandate was to win a trophy or secure a CAF Champions League spot, but with four league matches left, Amakhosi can only still aim for the CAF Confederation Cup.
The stakes are high for a club that has gone another season without silverware, having been eliminated from both the CAF Confederation Cup and the Nedbank Cup in February. With the Champions League positions already filled, Chiefs face a second consecutive campaign outside Africa’s top club competition. This coaching search is critical for a team that last won the Nedbank Cup in 2024 but has struggled to build sustained success.
Three candidates have emerged to take the reins. Pitso Mosimane, still available since May last year, has long expressed interest in the job. Manqoba Mngqithi, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, brings vast PSL experience but is currently at Golden Arrows. Swiss mentor Marcel Koller, recently parted from Al Ahly, offers pedigree with CAF Champions League victories. The decision will define Chiefs’ direction for next season and beyond.
