Kaizer Chiefs announce new European goalkeeper coach

Kaizer Chiefs have officially strengthened their technical team by appointing Frenchman Olivier Sorin as the club’s new goalkeeper coach, confirming a two-year contract with an option for a further season. The move arrives as part of a broader restructuring at Naturena, where newly appointed head coach Fernando Da Cruz is assembling his backroom staff ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Amakhosi announced the appointment through a club statement, noting that Sorin holds a UEFA Goalkeeper A Licence and has spent the past decade shaping the careers of several international shot-stoppers, including Édouard Mendy, Steve Mandanda, and Doğan Alemdar.

Sorin, a former professional goalkeeper himself, arrives in South Africa with extensive European coaching experience and will now bring his expertise to the Betway Premiership. His appointment signals the club’s intent to build a more robust technical department as preparations intensify for the new season. The 42-year-old becomes the latest addition to a revamped coaching structure that will be under the leadership of Da Cruz, who was recently named the new head coach of the Soweto giants.

With Sorin now on board, Kaizer Chiefs continue to finalise their backroom staff ahead of a demanding campaign that will see them compete in domestic league and cup competitions as well as the CAF Confederation Cup
