Former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach concluding move to Betway Premiership club

Durban City are closing in on a new head coach, with former Kaizer Chiefs tactician Khalil Ben Youssef emerging as the preferred candidate to take charge of the Nedbank Cup champions. Reports indicate that the KwaZulu-Natal club has already met with the Tunisian and tabled an official offer, leaving the final decision in his hands. The club considered several names during its search, including Eric Tinkler and Guy Bukasa, but Ben Youssef’s local experience gives him a clear edge. He spent the last two seasons in South African football, first arriving as part of Nasreddine Nabi’s technical team before serving as co-coach alongside Cédric Kaze at Kaizer Chiefs. Durban City will be hoping their next appointment can sustain the momentum generated by a campaign that delivered both a top-eight finish and Nedbank Cup success.

City endured a turbulent 2025/26 season marked by significant coaching upheaval following their promotion to the Betway Premiership. Promotion-winning coach Simo Dladla departed before the season began after failing to agree on a new contract, and veteran Gavin Hunt was appointed alongside Ernst Middendorp as technical director. Hunt lasted only four months despite guiding the club to eighth place, leaving in December 2025 over disagreements on transfer policy. Assistant coach
