Confirmed: Kaizer Chiefs and Durban City to play for R65 million

Kaizer Chiefs and Durban City are set to embark on their CAF Confederation Cup campaigns this September, with a staggering R65 million winners’ prize awaiting the eventual champion. The Confédération Africaine de Football has confirmed the schedule for the 2026/27 edition, where two South African sides will fly the flag on the continent. Chiefs qualified by finishing third in the Betway Premiership, while Durban City earned their place by winning the Nedbank Cup, securing a shot at the USD 4 million jackpot that could transform the fortunes of either club.

Both teams will begin their journeys in the preliminary rounds, with the first leg fixtures scheduled between 4 and 13 September before the second round runs from 16 to 25 October. Success in those ties would grant access to the group stage, which stretches from late November through to January 2027, featuring six matches that will determine who advances to the knockout phase. The quarter-finals follow in February and March, the semi-finals in April, and the final will be staged between 9 and 31 May 2027, offering a long but rewarding road for any side with continental ambitions.
